Lossless
Need to know what audio formats are supported
Date:October 27, 2010
The article is a good, easy-to-read overview description and makes the iTunes server functionality sound compelling. However, to get any idea if it could work for me I need to know what audio formats are supported. Is apple lossless supported? Can the HP media server convert music in FLAC format to apple lossless on-the-fly as they are streamed over the network? That would be really, super useful. However, if the iTunes server functionality only works with eg mp3 it's not very useful to me.

Mac Software Support is just ok....and buggy.
Date:July 22, 2010
With the software provided for the Mac, basic tasks are capable, backup of Drive content via Time Machine, Media can be streamed to a Mac in the home or remotely, and my mac can easily access my shares on the Media Smart Server EX495. It does what it says it will, but even with the Current version and build: 3.0.2b120, there are huge stability issues with the Media Collector. The software is very glitchy and tends to not respond quickly. I am very pleased with the progress that has been made on the Mac side of the WHS market. I am paitenly waiting for HP to update the HP Media Smart Server Software for the Mac, mainly for stability and usability issues rather than lack of features.
