Very good overview !
Date:April 25, 2013
I noticed that most people have no idea what tagging is. This is a clear introduction to the subject. Nice!
However I miss an important info in your article.
It is not enough to simply add words or add short phrases to successfully tag your pictures. (and find them back)
If you add for example to the pictures of your son Robert the tags: Robert, Robby, my son etc ... It will not be useful. You have to decide the tags in advance and stick to it. So you have to decide the keywords FIRST and the application you use has to let you choose out of the list of YOUR tags. For my son I use for example always Robert. Otherwise If I search Robert, the pictures with Robby will not show up etc.

Need help learning to tag pictures
Date:January 9, 2013
This did not help me at all. The first thing it tells me to do is to find the info panel on Windows Live Photo Gallery home screen. That's the screen that I am trying to find! I don't know how to get to it from the Windows 8 start page! Please help!

Picasa is another free alternative
Date:June 19, 2012
Google's picture organization tool called Picasa allows you to tag, face tag, and easily search through all of your photos both visually and by face, name, or tag. It also has many other great capabilities like 'starring' your best pictures, and options to hide certain pictures or only see pictures that match a certain criteria.

Tagging Review
Date:June 7, 2012
This is the best explanation of Windows Live Photo Gallery tagging that I've seen yet, but it still leaves me frustrated. I have thousands of pix. I need some hierarchical way to organize tags & to find them quickly for reuse. When I come back in 6 months to tag some more, how do I know whether I called this child "Celia," or "daughter," or "CC," or something else? If I tag someone as "John," & need to find it to apply to someone else later, what if I have several Johns? If I tag by full name, but without, say, an alphabetical heirarchy by last name, it will be hard to find the tag in a list of hundreds of names.
