Beats Audio is decent for a laptop
Date:January 15, 2012
I listen to all kinds of music, not necessarily loud and with too much bass. I also use an older laptop, a Sony VAIO VGN-FW275, in conjunction with the newer 15.6” HP-dv6tq, so my comparison is based on these two laptops. In all fairness, the Sony was specially configured to be a mini Blu-ray entertainment center.
The HP’s Beats Audio would be decent enough had I not experienced Sony’s clarity and separation. Sometimes, my focus is diverted to the left or right side of the room thinking that I am hearing surround sound from this Sony’s tiny speakers. Sadly, my two-year-old Sony is starting to show signs of wear and fading around the case, which turned out to be painted plastic. It is also very difficult to find support and accessories, such as an original manufacturer’s battery for a laptop that is only two years old.
However, where HP leaves Sony in the dust is their outstanding support, reliability and overall quality of products. I agree with the previous review that Beats Audio technology sounded better in the store. Could it be that I have not learned to tweak the audio settings correctly?
Overall, I am very pleased with my HPdv6, so much so that I purchased a second one for my wife. The initial set up was a breeze with easy to understand help and access to tech support. If my HP laptop could produce sound as good as my Sony, I would call it the PERFECT laptop.

Beats Audio

For everyone with an HP Beats Audio laptop!!! I myself thought the beats audio was highly lacking and somewhat pitiful, being an audiophile and Dr. Dre Beats enthusiest, I was highly let down...what I found out though is that for the first week my Beats Audio wasn't even on! For those of you that don't know, you can toggle between the Beats audio and regular audio (to conserve power). To do this either hit the function button and B at the same time (fn + b) and the red Beats logo will pop up or go to the bottom right of the screen where the audio buttons and etc. lie and click the little arrow, scroll to the top of the little pop-out, right click the Beats logo and open it and you will not only be able to turn on the Beats Audio surround sound here but also be able to customize your listening experience for Movies, Music, etc. I really hope this helps out a few people. I know it made me much happier. Though, you could have send a little pamphlet about this HP. =p

dv7 and beats audio

I have used and owned several laptops over the years and this is the best audio system for a laptop I have heard. It certainly shows Costco offers great products for members. I don't think i'll use up the 1TB drive but the i7 intel processor is fast and for a sale price of $800 it was worth every penny.
