Anti-Virus
Date:May 6, 2010
Actually your article is not 100% accurate.
Anti-Virus applications are pretty much ineffective against the data thieves of today. AV apps are a $$ grab, a little cottage industry that popped up 10+ years ago and have gotten out of control.
As far as repairing a "sick computer" once it has been infected, you will do well to even have an AV app install if you try. And if it does it normally does not remove the infection completely and it will eventually return due to the pieces left that can re-manifest themselves.
Hardware is not affected, its the software controlling the hardware thats infected causing the issues. The only hardware device that may be damaged by a virus is the Hard Drive.
Don't slant your article! What about applications like Kapersky AV, MCaffee, Panda, Black Ice, and a host of decent freeware apps such as Anti-Vir or Avast or AVG.
Symantec AV is no wheres near the product it used to be. Overpriced and mostly ineffective.
I realize this article is aimed at novices but don't mislead them like this. Tell them to get professional assistance to eliminate thier problems before they end up having all thier personal data either destroyed, or sold to the highest bidder. There are alot of good techs out here and none of them work for "Geek Squad". or advertise on TV for a "free diagnosis".
