Great Laptop, Great Usability
Date:September 9, 2011
"This laptop is the best one I've used so far primarily for the following features.
- Wide, spacious keyboard that's very roomy, comfortable, reactive and has a great feel. I've always hated typing on laptops compared to a full keyboard but I honestly have no problem with this one.
- The numeric pad included is a gem. First time I'm using one on a laptop, so by it having one at all is simply great.
- Connectivity = unlike the other person above who said it lacks connectivity, I have to disagree. With 3 USB ports, eSATA, Displayport 1.2, Firewire, VGA, Phone line, your standard Ethernet and Serial Ports, coupled with a great MMC card reader - I don't have any complaints. (In addition, the displayport included enables S/PDIF passthrough undecoded audio in case you wish to plug to a AC receiver to decode Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS, etc. I plug a Displayport to HDMI converter cable into my Pioneer VSX519 AC receiver and my 47" 1080p TV put out crystal clear display 1920x1080 @ 60hz with clear, crisp text in windows. Reactive and fast whilst playing movies using VLC with the audio passthrough and lets my decoder do the decoding job of the Dolby Digital or DTS audio into my surround speakers.
Overall, the system is snappy, and there are only 2 things i'd change - the monitor being a 15.6" could definitely support 1920x1080 so the 1366x768 is a little small, perhaps a 1440x900 monitor might be of preference for those looking for more screen real estate. If I had the option to swap the HDD for an SSD I'd do it - not because it's slow, but because I'm running an SSD on my home PC and I'm just really used to the snappy-ness of an SSD. That's the reason it gets 4 stars out of 5.
Overall, brilliant laptop for the price. I wouldn't need anything more, since I plug this into a docking station and it pushes a 1920x1200 24inch HP LA2405wg monitor on the side. And that lets me work on spreadsheets with ease."

Adequate but far from exceptional

"HP is a purveyor of specifications, but not usability. Unfortunately, this laptop is more of the usual plastic-coated nonsense that has lots of ports, but not the ports that would make it really usable. For example, the laptop still pushes VGA over other more current video standards--no DVI, no HDMI.The laptop also fails to impress with its battery life. While other commercial laptop manufacturers are designing laptops with 7 - 10 hour batteries, this laptop cannot operate for more than about 2 1/2 hours on a charge. The matching docking bays are also poorly designed, making it difficult to align the laptop to plug it in. This laptop is one big design step backwards."

Great Bang for your buck

"I recently switched my company to HP ProBooks with AMD CPUs. For a very reasonable price, we were able to get notebook systems with HD+ screens, quad-core CPUs, 4GB of RAM, and fast hard drives. HP does a great job getting all the features in there, including a serial port which we still need to work on networking equipment. We have users running Windows and Linux on these with no problems. Keep up the good work HP!"

"The ProBook 6555b is truly the BEST laptop I've ever laid my hands on. I swapped out the 320GB SATA disc with a Solid State Drive, and upgraded my memory to a total of 8GB. The keyboard is really comfortable, and the numpad is a BIG plus. This is a perfect mixture of speed, quality, reliability and comfort."
